What should educators know about the educator expense tax deduction?
Answer:
Eligible educators can deduct up to $250 in qualified expenses that were not reimbursed.
Educators who are eligible:
- Teachers, instructors, counselors, principals, or aids AND 
- In kindergarten through 12th grade AND 
- Work at least 900 hours in a school during a school year AND 
- Work in a school that provides elementary or secondary education. 
Deductible expenses include:
- Professional development course fees 
- Books and supplies 
- Computer equipment, software, and services 
- Other equipment and materials used in the classroom
